More people want to explore Thailand in a much more meaningful way. Volunteering in Thailand will give you the very meaningful and in-experience you can see Thailand as you have never seen it before. In Thailand you can volunteer in different ways. You can do English teaching in an orphanage, to conservation work or you can volunteer with elephants.
Elephants are the symbols of Thailand. When you think of elephants there’s a good chance you will be thinking of Thailand. Today there are many elephants in Thailand. Elephants used to be employed in the logging industry moving blocks around. A few years ago the logging in Thailand. Which meant the elephants could no longer work in the logging industry. As a result partly because of the high maintenance costs of keeping an elephant for the end owners, quite often elephants would be abused in the tourist industry. As a direct response to this several elephant camps were established in Thailand. Here elephants could once again live in their natural environments.
You can find elephants all over Thailand but the best place to see and work with elephants is definitely in the north of Thailand in the Chang Mai region. In the north of Thailand there is plenty of and nature available for the elephants to listen their natural environments. There are some very good elephant camps around Chang Mai where you can do your volunteering work. Chang Mai is also a wonderful tourist destination with many things to do before after your volunteering work.
When you volunteer with elephants in Thailand it is important that you volunteer at an elephant camp that treats the elephant’s right. Where there is no abuse of the elephants. Elephants are used to transport tourists which is fine as long as the elephants is not overworked, gets proper rest and proper food. So make sure that the elephant camp where you will be volunteering and donating some money treats the elephants right.

The volunteer abroad is a fantastic experience. For many people it is a life changing experience as it gives you the opportunity to get to know our culture in a much more meaningful way. For most travelers to experience they get is a nice one box in truth they do not really get to know their travel destination in-depth. It is great to spend time your travel destination in two visits to different sightseeing places bought it would be much more worthwhile to get to know the real culture and the real people of your travel destination. This is lots volunteering abroad gives you. And much more than this.
Volunteering abroad is also a way to give back to those in need. Going to a developing country you will see that there are a lot of people in needs, especially children. When you volunteer abroad you get this at hands on opportunity to help children in need. Volunteering activities include several possibilities such as teaching English, helping animals, doing construction work, taking care of children and interacting with children. There are a lot of activities where you can help as a volunteer in different projects abroad.
The volunteer abroad is also a two-way street. First of all your helping the local people, the local projects and the local culture through your volunteering activities. This is wonderful. It is a fantastic experience to help others in need. Bought the wonderful thing about volunteering abroad is that there is more. In return you will get an experience of a lifetime. You will learn about yourself, you will get a new perspective on life, you will see life in a much more meaningful way. This happens for volunteers who do their volunteering work with an open mind and a willingness to help.
Your attitude during your volunteering work is very important. You need to realize that you need to be pro-active and flexible to fit in with the project. Project is busy with the different activities all year round. When you come to volunteer for a few weeks or a few months it is good to realize that it is up to you to be proactive and flexible so that it is very easy for the project to incorporate your activities for a short-term that you will be joining them. It is good not to have to many expectations that everything will be ready for you and that everything will be perfectly organized. Volunteers who come with this state of mind will have a fantastic time and make a real difference to project.
To be flexible is very important when you are volunteering. Things are very different when you are working in a developing country. Compared to back home the quality of most things will be lower. The financial means and organization skills in developing countries is very different from that in Western countries. You need to try and make a difference in areas where you can make a significant difference in a short period of time. This can be very simple things such as organizing activities or games or just the quality of your care and interactions with the children. The impact of this on the lives and the future of these children can be huge. So try to keep things simple and make a difference in the simple way in the lives of these children.

The family Sullivan build a water tank during our program in Chiang Mai, Thailand in March 2010, see what they said:
We enjoyed our volunteer experience in Chiang Mai tremendously. WLS did an excellent job of coordinating our volunteer work. Their flexibility to work around our schedule and their organization once we arrived in Chiang Mai was incredible. They arranged everything and took great care of us. We built a water tank in the Hill Tribe community and this was a very positive experience. Each day 10 villagers would join us to construct the tank and it was very rewarding to see the outcome of our efforts.
We were also able to visit the school and give gifts to the children. This was amazing as the children were so polite and grateful. It was a life changing experience and we want to return to Thailand with WLS. The people of Thailand are so friendly and polite. The money paid to WLS was reasonable for the excellent services we received.
The home stay family taught us to speak some Thai and we were honored to be guests at their beautiful home. They cooked delicious meals for us with food from their garden and made us feel very welcome.
Our coordinator Prachit and her husband Surrat were wonderful. From the time they picked us up at the airport, to the final farewell night at the beautiful cultural center and drop of at the airport we were amazed by their warmth and hospitality. They are extremely intelligent and knowledgeable and made us feel like part of their family. They made our experience a fantastic one.
Warmest regards,
Victoria Sullivan, Cynthia Sullivan, Michael Sullivan, Lauren Sullivan and Jordan Edwards

Our latest testimonial for our volunteer program in India :
‘I had a fantastic time, met some great people and plan to continue in helping the school. My WLS coordinator was very knowledgeable and very accommodating.’
Rahul Madhavan
This project was founded on the belief that education is both a beacon, lighting the journey of life, and also the foundation on which secure, cooperative communities are built. In 2005 the school opened its doors in Beijing as the first private, non-profit vocational school in China to provide a completely free two year education to underprivileged youth who have migrated from the countryside to metropolitan areas. The purpose ofthe school is to help these young people become highly skilled workers and improve their lives, and secondly, to meet the current and future needs of cities for a skilled workforce.
